Who might be able to join this trial:

• You have been formally diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease using recognised medical guidelines.
• Your Alzheimer's disease is at a moderate to severe stage, confirmed by specific memory and thinking tests and daily functioning assessments (confirm with trial site for exact scores).
• Your doctor has decided that a medication called memantine is the right treatment for you.
• You have never been prescribed memantine before.
• You attend your clinic appointment with your main carer, and that carer is willing to take part and sign a consent form.
• Your main carer speaks Spanish as their first language or is able to communicate well in Spanish.

Who may not be able to join:

• You have been diagnosed with a very early ("preclinical") stage of Alzheimer's disease, or a mild stage rather than moderate to severe.
• You have had uncontrolled depression, including major depression, in the last three months (confirm with trial site for how this is measured).
• You have had uncontrolled anxiety in the last three months (confirm with trial site for how this is measured).
• You have a medical reason why you cannot take memantine, based on the official prescribing guidelines for this medication.
• Your main carer is unwilling to take part or is unable to complete the study, for example due to a serious sight or hearing problem.
• You have an active or poorly controlled psychiatric condition unrelated to Alzheimer's disease, such as delirium or schizophrenia.
• You are currently drinking alcohol regularly or heavily at the time of joining the study.
• You have an unstable or uncontrolled neurological condition, such as uncontrolled epilepsy, uncontrolled multiple sclerosis, active brain infection, or a similar condition.
• You have an active brain tumour at the time of joining the study.
