Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older
  • You must be able to eat and drink by mouth
  • You must have a confirmed diagnosis of a bowel blockage (called a small bowel obstruction) caused by colorectal cancer (bowel or rectal cancer) or gynaecological cancer (such as ovarian or uterine cancer), whether the cancer is still present or has spread
  • You must be someone who is either still receiving cancer treatment or receiving supportive (comfort-focused) care, or have an advanced cancer that cannot be treated with surgery
  • You must have at least 2 of the following symptoms: stomach pain, bloating after eating, feeling full very quickly, feeling sick (nausea), or being sick (vomiting)
  • You must have been seen at an outpatient clinic or come in through the emergency department (A&E)
  • You must be able to understand and agree to take part in the trial yourself

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are under 18 years of age
  • You do not have any symptoms of a bowel blockage
  • You have already been given advice to follow a specific 4-stage bowel obstruction diet
  • You are not able to eat or drink by mouth and are being fed through a tube or directly into a vein
  • You are not able to understand or agree to take part in the trial yourself
  • You are not able to read or communicate in English
