Who may be able to join
Who might be able to join this trial:
- Women aged between 18 and 35 years who have been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) (60 participants needed)
- Healthy women aged between 18 and 35 years with a Body Mass Index (BMI) below 30, to be used as a comparison group (30 participants needed)
Who may not be able to join:
- Women whose ovaries have stopped working early, shown by a specific hormone level (FSH) being too high on a blood test
- Women who have a tumor that produces male hormones
- Women with a hormonal condition affecting the adrenal glands called non-classical congenital adrenal hyperplasia (confirm with trial site)
- Women with Cushing syndrome, a condition caused by too much of the stress hormone cortisol
- Women with irregular periods caused by an underactive or overactive thyroid gland
- Women with a condition called hyperprolactinemia, where the body produces too much of a hormone called prolactin
- Women with significantly raised liver enzyme levels on a blood test
- Women who currently smoke cigarettes
- Women who drink alcohol
- Women currently using contraceptive pills or other hormonal contraceptives
- Women taking any medications that affect liver function, blood sugar processing, or fat metabolism
- Women with a history of long-term conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, liver disease, kidney disease, autoimmune conditions, inflammatory conditions, cancer, bleeding disorders, or blood clots
- Women who test positive for pregnancy, Hepatitis B, or Hepatitis C
