Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You can be male or female
  • You are scheduled to have a major keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery on your colon or rectum
  • You are willing and able to read and sign a consent form agreeing to take part
  • You have no known allergies to anaesthetic or pain-relief medications
  • You are generally in good to moderate overall health, as assessed by your doctor (confirm with trial site)
  • You are between 18 and 90 years old

Who may not be able to join:

  • You do not wish to take part in the study
  • You are under 18 or over 90 years old
  • You are pregnant
  • You have declined a type of local anaesthetic nerve block used in this trial
  • You have a known allergy to local anaesthetic medications
  • You have an infection at the area of the body where the needle for the nerve block would be inserted
  • You have an infection affecting your whole body
  • You have a condition that affects blood clotting or bleeding, whether identified by your medical history or a blood test
  • You have liver or kidney disease (confirm with trial site)
  • You regularly use opioid pain medications (such as morphine or codeine) on a long-term basis
