Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) based on having at least two of these three signs: irregular periods, higher-than-normal male hormones (from a blood test or physical signs), or polycystic ovaries seen on an ultrasound.
  • You are not currently dealing with any other serious illness and have not taken any prescription or over-the-counter medicines that could affect blood sugar or cholesterol levels in the past 12 weeks.
  • You are willing to keep your exercise and eating habits the same throughout the study, and you are overweight or obese (BMI of 24 or higher, or a waist measurement of 85 cm or more).
  • Your thyroid and prolactin hormone levels are within the normal range.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You smoke, drink alcohol, or have taken medicines in the past 2 months that could affect hormones or metabolism.
  • You are younger than 18 or older than 50 years of age.
  • You have already gone through menopause.
  • You have high blood pressure that is not well controlled (160/100 mmHg or higher).
  • You are already taking certain medications related to bone health (OPs) or blood sugar control (GLP-1 agonists) (confirm with trial site).
  • You drink more than 20 grams of alcohol per day, or you are currently pregnant.
  • You have signs of liver or kidney failure, active liver disease, or abnormal liver test results.
  • Your blood platelet count or hemoglobin levels are below a certain level (confirm with trial site).
  • You are unable to complete the full study, or you are currently receiving treatment with steroid medicines (like glucocorticoids) or treatment for cancer.
