Who may be able to join
Who might be able to join this trial:
- Your blood has very low levels of infection-fighting white blood cells (called neutrophils), or your levels are expected to drop very low soon
- You currently have a fever above 38.0°C (100.4°F)
- You have received chemotherapy or a stem cell transplant to treat cancer or a blood/bone marrow condition called myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS)
- You have been prescribed a specific antibiotic called cefepime, given through a drip at a dose of 2 grams every 8 hours
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a known allergy to a group of antibiotics called cephalosporins (such as cephalexin or cefazolin)
- Your kidneys are not working well enough (based on a blood test measuring kidney filtering ability) (confirm with trial site)
- You are already taking other antibiotics that target a certain type of bacteria called gram-negative bacteria
- You show signs that may suggest a serious body-wide infection called sepsis (confirm with trial site)
- There are practical reasons why receiving a 3-hour drip/infusion would not be possible for you
- Your cancer is a solid tumour (a lump or mass in an organ or tissue, rather than a blood or bone marrow cancer)
