Who may be able to join
Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are currently taking part in a separate NIA (National Institute on Aging)-funded community study about memory and thinking skills in older adults aged 65 and over who live independently and do not have dementia (confirm with trial site)
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a history of a brain or nervous system condition that affects memory or thinking, such as stroke, a serious head injury with loss of consciousness lasting more than 30 minutes, seizures, or similar conditions
- You have been diagnosed with dementia
- You have a current or past serious mental health condition, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder
- You scored higher than 14 on a standard 30-question depression screening test for older adults
- A brain scan (CT or MRI) has shown signs of stroke or an abnormal growth in the brain
- You have a history of alcoholism or misuse of other substances
- You are currently taking medications for memory/thinking, antipsychotics, or anti-seizure medications
- You have previously had radiation treatment to the brain
- You have a history of serious medical conditions such as cancer or AIDS
- You have poorly controlled diabetes or your blood sugar was above 180 mg/dl on the day of a specific type of brain scan used in this study (called an FDG-PET scan)
- You are currently pregnant
