Who might be able to join this trial:

• You are 18 years old or older
• You have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer or primary peritoneal cancer, confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy), including types such as mucinous, serous, endometrioid, clear cell, or undifferentiated tumors
• Your cancer can be measured on scans or imaging (at least one visible area of disease)
• Your cancer came back after you previously received at least one chemotherapy treatment that included a platinum-based drug (such as carboplatin or cisplatin)
• Your general health and ability to carry out daily activities meets a certain minimum level (confirm with trial site)
• Your liver, kidneys, and blood cell counts are within acceptable ranges based on blood tests (confirm with trial site)
• If you could still become pregnant, you must have a negative pregnancy test within 7 days before starting the study drug, and you must agree to use an effective barrier method of birth control during the study and for up to 3 months after stopping the study drug
• You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
• You must be eligible to receive care at a military medical treatment facility

Who may not be able to join:

• You have previously been treated with a drug called Gemzar (gemcitabine)
• You have taken part in another clinical trial or received an experimental drug within the last 28 days
• You have had another type of cancer within the past 5 years, unless it was a basal cell skin cancer, cervical carcinoma in situ, or a cancer that is not active and does not need treatment
• You have serious heart problems classified as Grade III or IV (confirm with trial site)
• You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
• You have a severe or uncontrolled medical condition, such as uncontrolled diabetes, uncontrolled chronic kidney disease, or an active uncontrolled infection
• You have cancer that has spread to the brain and has not been treated or is getting worse
• You have a known chronic liver disease, such as chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis
• You have been diagnosed with HIV
• You have received chemotherapy within the last 4 weeks (or 6 weeks for certain specific chemotherapy drugs), unless your cancer is rapidly worsening
• You have previously had radiation therapy covering 25% or more of your bone marrow
• You have had major surgery within the last 2 weeks
• You have a history of not following medical treatment plans, or you are unable to give reliable informed consent
