Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You must already be a participant in a specific related Amylin study (Protocol 2993LAR-105)
  • You are at least 16 years old
  • You have type 2 diabetes that is being managed with a stable dose of certain diabetes medications: metformin, a sulfonylurea (SU), a thiazolidinedione (TZD), or a combination of two of these (confirm with trial site for exact medications)
  • Your blood sugar control (HbA1c) is between 7.1% and 11%
  • Your fasting blood sugar is below 280 mg/dL at the screening visit
  • Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is between 25 and 45
  • Your weight has been stable for at least 6 months before the screening visit
  • You are not pregnant and are willing to use birth control during the study
  • Your physical exam and heart tracing (ECG) results are not considered medically concerning
  • Your lab test results are not considered medically concerning
  • You are able to understand and sign a consent form

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a significant medical condition that the study doctor considers disqualifying
  • You have a history of drug or alcohol abuse
  • You have previously used exenatide or any similar medication (known as a GLP-1 analog)
  • You have taken any experimental drug in the 30 days before your screening visit
  • You are currently taking certain medications, including: alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, insulin, drugs that affect how your gut moves food, steroid medications taken throughout the body, medications with addictive potential, or any prescription or over-the-counter weight-loss medications
  • You have donated blood within 60 days before screening, or plan to donate blood during the study
  • You have had major surgery or a blood transfusion within 2 months before screening
  • You have had a surgical procedure that may affect how quickly your stomach empties food
  • You have any known allergies or sensitivities to any ingredient in the study treatment
  • You are an immediate family member of someone who works at the study site
  • You are currently employed by Amylin, Lilly, or Alkermes (the companies involved in this study)
