Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old
  • You have type 2 diabetes and have been taking metformin (at least 1500mg per day) for at least 12 weeks
  • Your HbA1c blood sugar level (a measure of average blood sugar over time) was between 7.0% and 10.0% at your screening appointment
  • Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is between 25 and 45 (or between 23 and 45 if you are of Asian background)
  • Your weight has been fairly stable (not changing by more than 5%) for at least 12 weeks before your screening appointment

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a history of type 1 diabetes, or have had a serious diabetes-related emergency such as diabetic ketoacidosis or hyperosmolar coma in the past 6 months
  • You have significant health complications known to be related to your diabetes
  • You have a stomach or bowel condition that is causing noticeable symptoms
  • You have had a heart attack, heart bypass surgery, a heart condition following an organ transplant, or a stroke in the past 6 months
  • You have a known blood or haemoglobin disorder, or long-term anaemia (low red blood cell levels)
