Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Be between 10 and 20 years old
  • Have reached a certain stage of puberty (mid-to-late puberty) and have already had their first menstrual period (confirm with trial site)
  • Have a BMI (body weight relative to height) at or above the 85th percentile for their age and sex, meaning their weight is higher than at least 85% of peers their age

Who may not be able to join:

  • Currently taking oral medications for PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) or any medications that can affect bone health, such as anti-seizure drugs
  • Have another ongoing illness — physical or mental — or take regular medications that could affect hormone levels or gland function
  • Have already been diagnosed with diabetes
  • Have had bone surgery before, a previous fracture related to weak bones, or any broken bone in the past 12 months
  • Have previously had a blood clot in a vein or in the lungs — this applies to participants with PCOS only (confirm with trial site)
  • Have very low vitamin D levels in their blood (below a certain threshold)
  • Have too much potassium in their blood (above a certain level)
  • Have a positive pregnancy test (based on a blood test)
