Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have previously been diagnosed with Crohn's disease affecting the large bowel, or both the large and small bowel
  • You have had at least one flare-up or active episode of Crohn's disease in the past
  • Your stool tests have come back clear, showing no harmful bacteria or parasites
  • Your Crohn's disease activity score (a measure of how active your symptoms are) falls within a specific range, suggesting moderately active disease (confirm with trial site)
  • You are willing and able to give your informed consent to take part

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are taking more than 15mg per day of prednisolone (a steroid medication) or an equivalent dose of a similar steroid
  • Your steroid medication dose has been changed in the last four weeks
  • Your dose of Azathioprine (a medication that affects the immune system) has been changed in the last three months
  • You have taken antibiotics at any point in the last two months
  • Your Crohn's symptoms are thought to be caused by a blockage in the bowel or an abscess
  • You regularly take NSAIDs (common pain/anti-inflammatory medicines like ibuprofen) or colestyramine (a cholesterol medicine) on a long-term basis
  • You are pregnant or currently breastfeeding
  • You have had a surgical removal of more than 100 centimetres of small intestine, or have had any part of the large bowel removed (except a specific type of procedure called an ileo-cecal resection)
