Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with a blood cancer (such as leukemia or lymphoma) that has stopped responding to at least one previous treatment attempt.
  • OR you have been diagnosed with one of the following cancers that has stopped responding to at least two previous treatments: pancreatic, bile duct, stomach, colorectal, or esophageal cancer (all of a specific type called adenocarcinoma), melanoma (skin cancer), ovarian cancer, or a type of brain tumor called astrocytoma.
  • Your doctor does not believe there is another treatment currently available that could cure you or significantly extend your life.
  • You are 18 years of age or older.
  • You are well enough to carry out light activity and care for yourself (your doctor can assess this using standard scales).
  • Your blood cell counts meet certain minimum levels — your white blood cells, infection-fighting cells (neutrophils), and platelets are all at acceptable levels, and your red blood cell levels are reasonably stable without needing regular blood transfusions.
  • Your liver is functioning well enough, based on blood test results.
  • Your kidneys are working well enough to filter blood at an adequate rate.
  • You have recovered from any side effects of previous cancer treatments, with no ongoing moderate-to-severe side effects.
  • It has been more than 3 weeks since your last cancer treatment or experimental therapy.
  • If you may be a future candidate for a bone marrow transplant, you may still be eligible.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have cancer that has spread to the brain — unless your diagnosis is specifically astrocytoma (a type of brain tumor).
  • You have a significant build-up of fluid around your lungs.
  • Your tumor is completely blocking a body passage such as your airway, ureter (tube from kidney to bladder), or bowel.
  • You have a serious heart condition classified as Class III or IV by standard heart disease guidelines (confirm with trial site).
  • You are pregnant or currently breastfeeding.
  • You are able to have children but are unwilling to use effective birth control during the trial.
  • You are HIV positive.
  • You have an active, serious infection that requires antibiotic treatment given through a drip (IV).
  • You have active hepatitis B or C.
  • You are currently receiving another cancer treatment or experimental therapy at the same time.
