Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer (a specific type called epithelial carcinoma) that cannot be fully removed by surgery or treated with radiation to cure it
  • Your cancer has come back or gotten worse at least 6 months after finishing your first course of platinum-based chemotherapy
  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You are reasonably active and able to care for yourself (confirm with trial site)
  • You are expected to live for at least 12 weeks
  • Your blood cell counts and immune system are at acceptable levels (confirm with trial site)
  • Your kidneys are working well enough (confirm with trial site)
  • You have measurable signs of cancer in an area that has not previously been treated with radiation
  • You have only received one prior course of platinum-based chemotherapy
  • You have never been treated with a drug called gemcitabine before

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your tumor is a "borderline" type, meaning it is not clearly cancerous (confirm with trial site)
  • The cancer has spread to your brain or spinal cord
  • You currently have an active infection
  • You have another type of cancer, except for very early-stage cervical cancer or a type of treated skin cancer called basal cell carcinoma
  • You have another serious ongoing health condition
  • You have had more than one prior platinum-based chemotherapy treatment
  • You have received radiation therapy within the last 3 weeks
  • You have taken part in another experimental treatment within the last 3 weeks
  • You are currently receiving other chemotherapy or cancer-fighting drugs
