Who may be able to join
Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with stage I, II, or III avascular necrosis (a condition where bone tissue dies due to lack of blood supply) in the hip, confirmed by an MRI or X-ray
- Your avascular necrosis is related to sickle cell disease
- You have moderate to severe hip pain and/or difficulty moving the affected hip
- If the other hip is also affected, you may still be eligible — the hip causing the most symptoms would be the one enrolled in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- You have joint problems in the hip caused by something other than sickle cell disease
- You are currently taking steroids on a long-term, ongoing basis
- You are currently receiving regular blood transfusions as an ongoing treatment
- You have a problem with alcoholism
