Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, confirmed through a structured clinical interview.
  • You hear voices (spoken speech) at least 5 times per day and can make out what the voices are saying.
  • You are right-handed.
  • You have been on the same antipsychotic medication(s) for at least 4 weeks without any changes.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a history of seizures (unless they were caused by drug withdrawal or a medication you no longer take).
  • A parent, sibling, or child of yours has been diagnosed with epilepsy.
  • Your estimated IQ is below 80.
  • You are not able to give informed consent to participate in the study.
  • You have a serious medical condition that is not currently stable.
  • You are currently being treated with clozapine or bupropion.
  • You have cochlear implants or any other metal in your head from surgery or any other source.
  • You have a history of irregular heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia).
  • You have a cardiac pacemaker.
  • You have been actively using drugs or alcohol in the past 6 weeks.
  • You are pregnant.
