Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with nonbullous congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma (NBCIE), a skin condition present from birth that causes widespread redness, scaling, and thickening of the skin across the whole body
  • Your skin condition matches specific visual examples (grading photos) used by the trial team to confirm the diagnosis
  • The scaling on four areas of skin being treated is rated at least a 3 on the trial's severity scale
  • You are 18 months of age or older
  • You are in generally good health overall
  • Your blood fat levels (triglycerides and total cholesterol) are no more than 3 times the upper limit of normal

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have used corticosteroid treatments (steroid creams, pills, or injections) in the last 4 weeks
  • You have used any other experimental medications or participated in another trial within the last 4 weeks
  • You have used systemic (whole-body) treatments such as retinoids or cholesterol-lowering drugs within the last 4 weeks
  • You have used certain topical (skin) treatments — such as urea creams, alpha hydroxy acid products, or retinoid creams — within the last 4 weeks
  • You have significant abnormalities in blood test results related to your blood, liver, or kidneys
  • You are known to be allergic to any ingredient in the trial medication
  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You are a woman who could become pregnant and are not using adequate contraception
