Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with achalasia (a condition affecting swallowing) confirmed by specific tests measuring muscle activity in the esophagus and a camera examination of the throat/stomach
  • You are experiencing symptoms such as difficulty swallowing or food/liquid coming back up
  • Your blood platelet count (cells that help with clotting) is at a healthy enough level (at least 50,000 per mm³)
  • Your blood clotting time is within an acceptable range (confirm with trial site)
  • Your liver is functioning well enough to participate
  • Your kidneys are functioning well enough to participate

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have sores (ulcers) in your esophagus (food pipe), a condition called Barrett's esophagus, significant inflammation of the esophagus, or swollen veins in the esophagus
  • You have severe liver problems
  • You have severe kidney problems
  • You have had a heart attack recently
  • You have unstable chest pain (angina)
  • You have a serious, uncontrolled heart failure condition
  • You have severe lung disease that causes breathlessness even while resting
  • You have confusion or significantly altered thinking/mental awareness
  • You have another serious ongoing illness or condition
  • You are currently pregnant
