Who may be able to join
Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with acute intermittent porphyria, variegate porphyria, or hereditary coproporphyria
- Your condition causes 6 or more attacks (flare-ups) per year
- If you are already receiving preventive heme therapy, you have had fewer than 2 attacks in the past 6 months
- During an acute attack, your urine test shows a specific marker (called porphobilinogen) at a level of at least 20 mg over 24 hours
Who may not be able to join:
- You are currently pregnant
- You are able to become pregnant but are unwilling to use effective birth control during the trial and for 6 months before joining
- Your symptoms are caused by another illness, not porphyria
- You have had continuous symptoms of porphyria lasting longer than one month, unless those ongoing symptoms also include separate acute flare-ups on top of them
- You have an active bleeding condition, such as bleeding in the digestive tract or bleeding in the brain
- You have a known allergy or sensitivity to tin mesoporphyrin (the treatment being studied)
- You have a known allergy or sensitivity to any intravenous (IV) heme preparation
- You have another medical condition that may put you at increased risk during the trial (confirm with trial site)
