NCT00003670
Completed Phase 2

Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are a woman aged 18 or older with ovarian cancer (a specific type called epithelial ovarian cancer) or a related cancer called primary peritoneal cancer, confirmed by laboratory testing of tumor tissue
  • Your cancer has spread to other parts of the body and has not responded to previous treatment
  • You have previously been treated with chemotherapy that included at least one platinum-based drug and one taxane-based drug — unless your doctor determined these were not suitable for you due to nerve damage, kidney problems, or an allergic reaction (to Taxol only)
  • Your cancer can be measured in two directions using X-ray, CT scan, MRI, or physical examination
  • Your estrogen receptor status is known, or tumor tissue is available to be tested for it
  • You are generally in good health and able to carry out normal daily activities (confirm with trial site)
  • You are expected to live for at least 24 weeks
  • Your blood counts and organ function meet certain healthy levels — including your white blood cells, platelets, hemoglobin, liver, and kidney values (confirm with trial site)

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have had another cancer in the past 5 years, unless it was a minor skin cancer (non-melanoma) or a very early-stage cervical condition that was fully treated
  • You have had more than 2 previous chemotherapy regimens if your cancer may still respond to platinum-based treatment
  • You have had more than 3 previous chemotherapy regimens if your cancer does not respond to platinum-based treatment
  • You have received certain chemotherapy drugs (mitomycin or nitrosoureas) within the last 6 weeks, or any other chemotherapy within the last 3 weeks
  • You have not yet fully recovered from side effects of previous chemotherapy
  • You have received hormone replacement therapy within the last 3 weeks
  • You have previously had hormonal therapy specifically to treat your ovarian cancer
  • You have had radiotherapy within the last 2 weeks, or have not yet fully recovered from it
  • Fluid build-up in the abdomen (ascites) alone cannot be used to measure your cancer for this trial
