Who may be able to join
Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have a solid cancerous tumor (not a blood cancer) that has not responded to standard treatments, or for which no standard treatment is available.
- Your cancer can be measured using MRI or CT scan (eye tumors called retinoblastomas may be measured by direct examination, and certain germ cell tumors may be tracked using blood markers).
- You are any age.
- You are well enough to carry out daily activities at a reasonable level (doctors will assess this using specific health scoring scales based on your age).
- You are expected to live for at least 8 weeks.
- Your blood cell counts meet minimum levels, or you have enough stored stem cells available if your counts are low.
- Your liver function blood test results are within acceptable ranges.
- Your kidney function is within normal limits, or your kidneys filter blood at an adequate rate.
- Your heart is functioning well enough, as shown by a heart ultrasound or a specific heart scan before treatment begins.
- If you show signs of lung problems, your lung function must be at least 55% of the expected level for someone your age.
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
- If you are able to have children, you must be willing to use effective birth control during the trial.
Who may not be able to join:
- Your cancer has spread into the bone marrow.
- You have received chemotherapy or radiation therapy within the last 4 weeks and your blood counts have not yet recovered (confirm with trial site).
- You are currently receiving other chemotherapy treatments (except a specific steroid called dexamethasone used to reduce swelling).
- You are currently receiving radiation therapy.
- You are taking corticosteroid medications solely to control nausea and vomiting.
