Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Your cancer must have been confirmed by a tissue or cell sample (biopsy or lab test), and there must be no known standard treatment available that could extend your life.
  • You must be reasonably active and able to care for yourself (your doctor will assess this using a standard scale).
  • Your doctor expects you to live for at least 3 months.
  • Your blood platelet count (cells that help with clotting) must be at an acceptable level.
  • Your white blood cell count must be at an acceptable level.
  • Your kidneys must be working well enough, based on a blood test or urine test.
  • Your liver must be working well enough, based on blood test results.
  • At least 2 weeks must have passed since your last radiation or chemotherapy treatment, and you must have recovered enough to meet the other requirements here. Hormone therapy may continue up to the time you join.
  • Your cancer must be measurable — either visible on scans or physical exam, or detectable through specific tumour markers in your blood.
  • You must be willing and able to understand and sign a consent form, and follow the study plan.

Who may not be able to join:

  • Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or who could become pregnant and are not using effective birth control are not eligible.
  • People who have had another type of cancer (other than certain skin cancers) within the past 5 years are generally not eligible — though those who completed treatment for a prior cancer at least 5 years ago and are considered low risk by their doctor may be considered (confirm with trial site).
  • People who have, or have had, cancer that has spread to the brain or spinal cord are not eligible.
  • People with serious ongoing health conditions unrelated to cancer, or with an active infection that is not under control, are not eligible.
  • People who are HIV positive are not eligible.
  • People who have previously been treated with the drug vinorelbine are not eligible.
  • People who are in poor general health due to other serious illnesses are not eligible.
